The Big Move to Seattle: Entry One

I recently decided that I was moving to Seattle. It was on a list of U.S. Cities that had low gini indices ( lower rates of income inequality and higher rates of racial mixing). I love Atlanta. I’ve lived here pretty much my whole life. I just want a change and I think that Seattle will offer that.I plan to document the whole journey via pictures, blogs and videos so that people can follow along with me. I have a few plans in place that will meet my basic needs while i’m getting acclimated. I know people like to say ” If you wanna hear God laugh tell him your plans.” I think that is mumbo jumbo. You plan for big things and have fall back plans for when your original plan falls through. I’m not gonna catch my self unemployed in a new city begging on the street. I’m making plans. So here they are.

plan One: Employment

Seattle is a great place to live if you are really tech savvy. I know my way around a technology, I’m kind of a Tech junkie. (I am on gadget short of selling my soul to Apple. )However I don’t have enough knowledge to work in that industry. So, I thought that Teaching is a great go. People always need Teachers and Nurses. So in the coming months I’m going to work on getting certification here in Georgia so that the transition will be easier. I’m open to clerical jobs and tutoring etc. That’s what I have been doing here while I get my life in order.

Plan Two: Housing

Because I’m realistic… I’m probably gonna be living in the suburbs of Seattle and not in the actual city limits. Unless I live on a university campus ( which will probably be step one to my plan for greatness) I have to find a great place to live. I don’t have high hopes for finding a room mate ( unless one of my lovely friends from Atlanta moves there with me.) So i hope to find a safe area  with a good amount of police presence ( enough where i’m safe, but not too much so i can speed and not worry about tickets) and a kick ass security system. I don’t know the neighborhoods yet, so I have to ask around while I’m there. I’d hate to find my self living in the hood parts of seattle. lol! But that is what the first trip is for.

Plan Three: Education

The plan is to get a masters in something. Public Policy, History, Political Science, Creative Writing, Communications. Seattle University and University of Washington are on the top of my list. ( So things are in order for Seattle University, but i have found that discussing opportunites causes them to disappear. so i’ll give details when i have them to give) Both also have VERY good law schools. So if I decide to go that route ( which is probably what is going to happen) I will already have an “in” at one or both of those places. I also have the Art Institute of Seattle as a back up plan. I looked up a lot of professional organizing/ interior design firms located in seattle and going to the Art Institute is a definite in. It will also open doors for a Master of Fine Arts degree and that would be cool. I also really want an internship in city government. But who knows if that is employment or education.. maybe a little of both.

Plan Four: Grooming

I need to find a hair salon, a nail shop, a great place to get my eye brow threaded my staple stores ( NY&C, Old Navy, The Gap, Express, ETC.) and cool boutiques ( an artsy spot.. like Little Five Points) these are VERY important for my survival. lol! I need go to retail therapy places. Especially in a whole new city.

Plan Five: Social Life

I’m sure for most, this would be at the top of their list, but it’s at the bottom of mine. It’s the least important and will happen along the way.  I will find a church and good hang out spots. School is a great way to meet new people and make new friends. Plus.. I’m pretty and I’m a great cook. great friend material 🙂

I’m not sure how all these things will come together in the next year but come July 2012, god willing, I will be living in Seattle Washington.

My first trip there is November 3rd til the 7th. I’m going to absorb as much as possible in the 3 days and 4 nights I will spend there.

Wish me Luck Children!!!
