While on this fun hair journey I’ve been reading a lot of articles about going natural and growing out your hair. I’ve done that natural thing several times since I was 11 years old. I’m talking about 11 years of back and forth between chemically straightened hair and my curls ( which I always miss when they are gone).
I know tons and tons of girls who have gone on this natural journey for one reason or another. Some are just following the trend ( for fashion sake) Some are doing it because they are becoming more health conscious. Some girls are going natural just to try something new and others have this need to prove their blackness. Whatever your reason might be it’s not your responsiblity to convert people.
I write this blog so that others who are interested can avoid the mistakes that I have made and am going to make. It’s not to convince others of anything. My reason is simple. I need to start being better to my body; from head to toe. Changing my hair routine, my beauty routine, the way I eat and the way I dress is so that I can preserve my health ( I’m a bit sickly lol)
I needed to vent about this simply because some of the conversations I’ve been having with people are starting to get on my nerves. My skin is proof enough that I am a black woman. Women who perm their hair aren’t less black or self loathing for getting perms. Going natural doesn’t make you more in tune with Africa. To think so is SOOO stupid.
WITH THAT SAID!!!!! I announced that I was braiding my hair last week. and I did. Braids are a very good protective style. They shouldn’t be installed to tight ( as not to pull out your hair and damage hair follicles.) Also braids are versatile. You can do a lot with them.
I have continued to use my oil mixture as well as the watered down Cell Therapy. When my scalp itches I just get some jojoba or argan oil and massage my scalp ( not beating my head ( cause girls who do that look nuts) or digging my nails into my scalp ( i read somewhere that that causes breakage)).
I’m enjoying this and I hope that if you are on this journey with me ( or are waiting to see my results) that you are also enjoying it. Live and learn 🙂
