In 2006, Anais Martinez won the Latino version of American Idol -Objetivo Fama. I really got into that season because of her. ( I can also say I never watched another season of that show.) Anais’ captivating beauty is what kept me from changing the channel, and her voice made me return week after week.
Her first album, Asi Soy Yo, dropped in 2006 and I RAN to pick it up. ( Well, not really, I had to buy it online) I played the album so much I got a fun threatening note from my neighbor. It pleased me to hear great songs re-done by Anais. “Lo Que Son Las Cosas” and “Que te Pedi” are my favorite re-makes on that album. Her music is addictive and her charisma and stage presence are tantalizing. Anais became on of my top 5 performers.
When her second album was released, I already pre-ordered my copy. I also purchased the platinum re-release of Con Todo Mi Corazon. ( Como Tu Mujer was a song I heard quite a bit growing up) Anais showed off her chops once again. Her voice was stronger and the red hair was vibes. I loved it! Picking a favorite song on the sophomore album is a was a bit harder, but the top two are Re-encuentro and Sexy Mama.
(I am a bit annoyed at Univision for lightening her skin tone on the album covers…. RAWR!!!! she’s beautiful as is. Thats a different blog at a different time. )
I’ve seen her perform live in person a few times and she is a beast, but last I’ve heard of her she was acting. I also heard she was working on an english album *fingers crossed*
I think about her here and there and I’m glad that I can listen to her songs and rock out when the mood strikes. Although, I would love new music.
